Description
Auriparus flaviceps. Female.
Found at Tohono Chul Park, Tucson, Arizona, USA.
These are fairly small birds and their high pitched single note song sounds very similar to certain hummingbirds. The male's head is yellow, and the female's face only is yellow. Both have a red spot on the wing shoulder that looks like blood; the female's is smaller. They build nests that are quite large, and fully enclosed, out of twigs and such: a regular apartment. Like most small birds, they are active.
