Description

there are five valleys eminating from Salisbury Wiltshire each with their own river, the Nadder, the Wyle, the Bourne, the Avon and latterly the Ebble also known locally as the Chalk valley. Yesterday as a follow up to some family history of mine that established three generations of Sheperds in my family we visited the Chalk valley where my great great grandfather was a sheperd on the surrounding hills. Our visit caused us to visit a lot of the local churches. This one is fascinating, the church of St John the Baptist in the village of Bishopstone. Believed to have been established in the 12th century, it boasts some fascinating details, one being an amazing pulpit made up of beautiful wooden panels and adornments originating in Spain.More to follow.

I love this, Alan!! A favourite. It so exciting to see work by craftsmen and imagine them in the act of making it. Joy in the Making..that was my department motto where I taught.
