Description

Whilst at the Portland Zoo, the caracal was intently focused on something. He turned his back to the viewers and zero'd in on somethingwe could not see. I spent twenty minutes waiting for a good shot, especially of his beautiful face and ears. He never moved during that time, save for a few ear twithces. Alas, I settled on a shot that centers on his luxurious coat. The Caracal is a solitary creature. Classified as a small cat, it is the fastest and heaviest of its class. They range from Africa to the Middle East to India. Their habitat is savanna, semi-desert, dry woodlands and mountains, and the arid hilly steppe. Males weigh between 25 and 40 pounds (11.5 to 18 kg). The females weigh between 21 and 24 pounds (9.5 to 11 kg). They have a most beautiful face, with characteristic long, black ear tufts (or tassels). Also, they have a splendid coat. Some people think they make pets, but since they are a solitary creature in the wild, they do not make good pets. I would like to credit the San Diego Zoo for some of the above information. Thank you for visiting my page, and for any comment you'd like to make. A big thanks goes out to all who have favorited me or my work.

Good to see you got a Caracal, in this shot you can see the tufts of hair sticking up from the ears and coat detail. I managed to get one of a caracals face at Exmoor Zoo but doesn't detail these things you have been able to capture here. They are a very attractive desert lynx.
