Description

This is a Limpkin and he is part of a wildlife display, at the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge visitors center. I do not like to post stuffed birds and animals but the Limpkins are very elusive. They are about 26 inches (66 cm) long and about the same measurements for the wingspan. The live in the surrounding wetlands and eat snails, frogs, insects and fresh water clams. Their mating call is an ear piercing krr-oww and is mostly heard at night. We have a very lonely male living in a tree right outside our patio. We wish that he finds a mate soon! Zoom worthy! Great capture Dana. Just when I thought about the possibility of a flash you may have used and why didn't the bird react to it you mentioned a 'stuffed bird'. Great capture!
