Description

Very cold and dry weather conditions last week-end… and great light ! So, I went out with my camera and in only one hour on Saturday morning, I met …eight red foxes wandering in the snow-covered grasslands…(between Sainte-Marie-sur-Semois and Harinsart in South Belgium) The European fox (Vulpes v. crucigera)is a medium sized subspecies, with a yellowish-fulvous or reddish-brown pelt lacking the whitish shading on the upper back. The tail is not grey, as in most other subspecies. It is primarily distinguished from V. vulpes vulpes by its slightly smaller size, distinctly smaller teeth and widely spaced premolars. Il a fait très froid et sec ce dernier week-end… avec une superbe lumière ! Samedi matin, en moins d’une heure, j’ai aperçu… huit Renards roux dans les prairies enneigées entre Sainte-Marie-sur-Semois et Harinsart ! This is a very good catch. He is in stalking mode I think. This shows off his length and conformation so nicely. (And his fluffy fox tail.)

Nice shot of this handsome fox. Though we have foxes here in southern Oregon, they're grey & rarely seen in the daytime. A few months ago, we were having problems with a destructive raccoon & laid a live trap for it. On two consecutive days, we caught foxes in the trap (we released them both), but never did get the raccoon...
