Description

"It All Starts With The Snow" Original image taken with a Canon Rebel Xsi and pw in CS4. When I went out for my walk today I stopped at the brook for a moment as I usually do, squeezed off a few clicks of the camera. I noticed a small twig floating by. Got me thinking how this water has the potential to run into at least 4 rivers and one lake prior to leaving British Columbia before flowing into Washington and Oregon States. Finally getting to its destination when it reaches the Pacific Ocean. Its a long journey with a lot of dams and other perils along the way. But before anything can happen in this area it all starts with the snow.

Lovely cold image~ Here and there on the highways and Interstates you see signs noting a particular "watershed" which I have always found interesting. I grew up in a time when Geography was one of the core subjects and I enjoyed it immensely. I don't believe it is given enough emphasis in schools these days of standardized testing and worry about reading and math (both of which are incorporated into Geography in real applications.) Most people could not tell you where a neighborhood (or country) branch went but I have always been aware. There are adventurous people who have their large sailboats on some Tennessee lakes who sail down the connected waterways to the Gulf and the oceans, then proceed around the world and back. Amazing~
