Wow, the way that ice is piled in slabs on the shore is quite amazing - to me, anyway, as I've never seen this kind of thing. The closest was when I attended the presidential inauguration in January of 2009 in Washington D.C. & the Potomac had flat big chunks of ice floating in it...

That's so cool! I used to see huge mounds of ice build up along the shore of Lake Michigan, but it's been years since we've had long enough cold spells during the winter for that to happen. I'm fascinated by the jumbled piles of ice in this, it'd be hard for me to resist playing with them, too.

i always got a kick out of the first real thaw, there was a coolness in the air, with heat from the sun, tiny rivulets of melting water flowing downhill to the river....birds chirping in the trees and bushes....a feeling of renewal... fantabulous shot, instant fave.... (if you get the chance, try to find the Northern Exposure episode called "breaking the ice"... very funny flashback)
