Description
This ia Ghost, an albino raccoon. He was brought to my by the state. Ghost was captured as a baby by a coon hunter. He was kept in a 18inch square cage for over a year. Hunters use captive raccoons to train their dogs. The cage is hooked on long slide lines and pulled back and forth.
The hunter was going to kill and mount him after he was grown.
When he came to me, his mind was shut down.It was the most amazing day when he looked at me after 6 weeks and puffed! That was the first normal reaction I saw. I grouped him with several younger raccoons. Over the next several months, he learned to be a real raccoon. He was released on a large private properity with several of his new buddies. That was 5 years ago and he is still seen.
Every year I deal with the unspeakable cruelty of humans and sometimes it becomes too much.
Then another call comes in and I can't say no.

and I salute you & applaude!!! amazing... an albino. what a cutey, this lucky guy -in the end-!!! (like to think I'm 'broadminded', but can't wrap my head around this 'hunter-thing'... 'pleasure hunting' being the term in dutch (!) what is wrong with these people??? and are they? 'human'?) I truely admire that you seem to be able to coop with 'abnormalities'. came/come unto my path as well. unbearable... :'-(((

Aw, how cute! And raccoons are SO intelligent! I suspected there is albinism among raccoons, too. I wonder how accepted they are by their parents, though. My heart goes out to the great job you're doing. I've been on a pheasant hunt once - that was for food. But, I can't understand this killing for fun mentality. I suspect it would be fun having a "pet" raccoon, but it should be free to roam in nature - NOT be stuck in a cage! People I know who've had them on their property say they can get quite close and affectionate and be like part of the family. Keep up the good work! :-)

what you do for the animals is wonderful and i congraduate you on it. i am a animal lover also but due to health i can only help my 3 cats which i saved from being detroyed. that is all i can do is go to the animal shelter and get another one when i can afford to get one or save it from the streets.

This brought tears to my eyes. How can humans be so cruel, in fact , humans are the only species that kill for fun or gain. Shame upon us:( I am so happy to know there are people in this world like you who help. You are amazing. I salute you.
