Description

Following the announcement of Dr. Rephi Muiniche's discovery, there was a rapid expansion of stations and launch capabilities as nations and private industry raced to position themselves to take advantage as soon as the "Rephi Portals" became available. This led to a need for vehicles that could move between the various orbiting stations. Vanguard Industries moved quickly to build a standardized core vehicle, with power plant, propellant and reserve storage that could then be used for a variety of functions, depending upon what would be attached to the front. Their initial products were more basic industrial uses, but their showpiece was their Low Earth Orbit Taxi, which moved VIP's and other passengers between the various stations, and was later expanded as stations were established at the Lagrange points, and eventually mining outposts were finally established on the moon. This was a promotional image, featuring their taxi moving in orbit over a spectacular view of Africa and the Middle East. ------- The ship was modeled in Bryce 6.5, while the background image was taken by one of the astronauts on the Space Station, courtesy of NASA. There's a mix of preset textures and my own, and all compositing and post working was done in Photoshop CS3. As always, comments, critiques, suggestions, etc. are definitely welcome. Beautiful realization of the LEO transport concept -- you've put some really cool design work & textures into this -- I really like the gold insulation on the tanks! The the structural modeling is both credible and at the same time evocative of its own distinct alternative science fictional culture -- in terms of design this fits right in with proposals put forth from Rockwell and Boeing in the '70's -- superb.
