Description

Some time ago I happened to be ready with my camera at the instant this accident occurred. For unknown reasons the woman, a Peruvian immigrant, decided to run to the bus stop across the road, but she didn't see the tram coming. The tram driver did his best to stop; but couldn' avoid to hit the woman, who was lucky enough not to be also hit by the incoming cars. The scene shows the accident just a couple of seconds after the woman was thrown onto the middle of the road. A few minutes later an ambulance arrived, and took her to the hospital. Fortunately she survived her imprudence. Thanks for your kind comments.

Sad picture dear Sandra, this can happen here in Spain every 10 minutes, I guess the people here can't hehave correctly in the streets, drivers never used their direction indicators and they also have their handys always near their ears, how can you drive safe (it's forbidden, but they just do what they want)????

great capture of the moment. I can image how horrible this moment was. Fortunatly, this ended well for the young woman.

It defies the odds to survive and encounter of that magnitude with a train! She must have a very powerful guardian angel to look after her. A stunning capture, Sandra! Very dramatic!

Everybody looked on - but nobody seems to do anything about - to come to inquire and seek her status? ah that's life ... very quick and intuitive action by you, with camera in hand, did you send it to the newspapers? top marks, BB

You couldn't have planned it even if you tried. These are award winning pictures that often make the news. Lucky for the women to have survived!

Oh My...... what a terrible accident to have happened. Sometimes rationality and decision making isn't always at its best and things like this happen. And yet, sometimes its really no one's fault.... either way, luckily she is okay, and it seems like you've caught this right before people actually have taken in what has happened. Surprising that the by-standers have not all stopped and rushed over... makes you wonder what is going through all their heads at this particular instant. A rare photograph.... glad you shared this with us, to remind us of being aware of our surroundings.

Accidents happen every day. Even if the doctor is already on the way - probably by cell phone from a passer - irritates me that no one goes toward the injured. All standing there waiting. Everyone wants to help, but do no wrong. The First Aid course back been too long . But at least hold hands or talk to the injured until the doctor comes .... It's become a big problem. A shocking photo for me .... even without blood.

I am very glad to hear that the lady recovered from this accident. By the look of her placement the force of impact must have been terrible. Alas, it was probably one moment of distraction.

WOW! This is one of those shots that just grabs a viewer by the throat. It ranks up there with the best journalistic photography and on top of all of that, it's a beautiful shot, despite the subject. I'm glad to know that the woman survived. What an image. What a lovely place as well, but then I'm partial to any city or town with trams. This is a brilliant, perfectly-timed shot: such a wonderful record of life among humans. I have yet to see this in Chicago, though I know it happens on a regular basis, probably because someone is paying more attention to their iPod than their location!
