Yup ... that's why the roofs are that shape! :) There are places in the mountains up here where there isn't exactly a tunnel, but you drive through something that looks just like this porch, only bigger. They're called snow sheds, and they're specifically for shedding show and diverting avalanches across the roadway. The west side of the Cascade mountains gets more snow per year than anywhere else in the United States, so we've gotten pretty good at this! (Now I bet that was WAY more information than you ever wanted! LOL!) Did I mention how much I like this image? The light is superb.

Nice cpature. I used to live in a mountain cabin.. it got completely burried every winter. Despite the 15 foot climb up to its door.. used to have to dig down to get in.

I never seen this much snow slide off a roof.when I was a child we would get lots of snow on the roof and no idea why the old house did not cave in under the weight.obviously the roof is a standing seam roof.I installed some back when I was working
