Description

I know, it's been a while since I've posted. Mostly, that is due to a lack of completed personal work. That's not to say I haven't *started* a lot of personal projects, just that I haven't done much work that I'd consider 'finished.' Maybe I need to lower my standards. Here is something I did for fun in Vue. I'm going through something of a Star Wars geek-out at the moment, so the idea here was to make something that could pass for a frame from 'Empire.' The Snow Speeders are freebies from Vanishing Point. I added some procedural grime layers and some procedural bumps to the textures, but they are otherwise a straight-up export from Studio, import to Vue. Terrains are procedural, you might recognize them from the earlier 'Peaks' image in my gallery here. Atmosphere is global radiosity lighting with a good amount of fog and haze. Just a little lens flare in camera and the sun has a nice 2% blur on the shadows as well (don't forget to turn up the quality of the shadows for final rendering). I rendered out some masks for the two Snow Speeders and did the motion blur in post, mostly because I didn't feel like fiddling with the animation and settings needed to do it in camera. There are some levels adjustments and a bit of noise added to simulate film grain. Thanks for looking and may the force be with you! --m

Wonderful atmosphere and detail - it could indeed pass for a frame from Empire!

Couldn't make it out in the shrunken version, but full size is excellent.

Nice, I love the 'Empire' 's photo. Maybe I'd put more light on the speeders or something to set them more on focus, just a thought...

I think the terrain looks great, though I'll admit that I'm not enough of a landscape artist to be a good judge. I love the atmosphere and sky, subtle as it is. The snow looks good, but it also shades about like the speeders, which seems odd (the snow should have SSS and the speeders shouldn't as long as they're metal). I agree with 2ni about the image possibly being stronger if the speeders contrasted just a bit more with the landscape. Overall, it's very realistic and dynamic. I like the motion blur, which wasn't overdone (as it is most of the time). Great work!
