Nice, I had a WIP similar to this somewhere on my disk. Do you check the monolith dimensions ratio ? ;)

Yes, the monolith ratio seems wrong confronted to the one in 2001, much taller, but in the end, its the artist call... I remember the comic version of 2001 done by Jack Kirby that has the same monolith ratio...
