Description

A cheetah LOOKS fast standing still - small head, trim body, powerful legs and a long tail to use as a rudder and counterbalance. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park has set up a great place for guests to see close up these magnificent speedsters. Some interesting facts from the trainers - cheetahs expend so much energy sprinting that they are only good for 2-3 short bursts a day before becoming fatigued. They are also big fraidy-cats using their speed to get them out of dangerous situations rather than fighting. The are so skittish that to get them to run at the park the trainers have to send a companion dog down the run first so the cat can see everything is safe. When they do run it is breathtaking - they accelerate to top speed in a few steps and go by so fast if you blink you'll miss them. Enjoy.
