Description

You may have noticed that I’ve fallen behind. This, then, is as good a time as any to announce that I’m trimming the project. The goal of the project was to get me to use the camera every day, and I’ve certainly been doing that. The trouble is my own standards - I refuse to upload snapshots, only photographs with motive. This turns every day into a deadline, and that makes me cranky and snappish. For the sake of my friends and family, it’s time to tone it back. Henceforth, this is Project 180. I’ll aim to update 3 times per week - provisionally Monday-Wednesday-Saturday. I’ll also be posting a “bonus” image each month from entries to competitions like Overclockers Australia's “Iron Photographer”. If you figure that out, it totals to 174. I’m not sure where the other 6 will come from yet, but I promise the updates won’t stop until I reach 180! Today’s image was shot from Stockton. The real subject is the sky - everything else is just an unusually uncooperative prop to balance it out. I’m not thrilled with the composition, but I’m happy enough to post! Note: I'm running a Project 365, aiming to shoot and post a new photo every day. I'm posting them here after a few days delay - if you want to follow this as it happens, see my blog: Lucis+Umbra - photography by c.j. kerr

Is this Lucis Arts processing? Nicely done!

THROBBE: All my recent images are processed primarily in Lightroom 4 (beta). Some are additionally tweaked in Alien Skin Exposure 3 - the film simulations sometimes help achieve the desired colour rendition, and I think some images benefit from a bit of grain. I've not used LucisArt - I've seen some striking results, but I generally steer clear of canned effects packages like LucisArt, Topaz Adjust, PhotoLooks and their ilk.

Great composition & light. The fisherman, ship, skyline & distant mountains seem like integral parts of what makes this an interesting scene & composition, rather than props to me. Seems like you're being very hard on yourself in your self-criticism, but I guess that's okay if that's what it takes to stimulates your creativity...

This is superb - the sky is wonderful but I think the fisherman and boat at interest in the foreground and enhance the overall visual impact.

This is excellent and the fact that what you are doing is stimulating the comments above is evidence of success. Well done.
