Description

Downtown Sydney looking along York Street toward the Town Hall, completed in 1890. On the left is the Queen Victoria Building, now referred to as QVB. This Romanesque Revival Building was designed as a shopping centre and was completed in 1898, but was later used for other purposes. It takes up an entire city block, is 30m wide by 190m long, and is bounded by Market, George, Druitt, and York Streets. It has been desribed by Pierre Cardin as 'the most beautiful shopping centre in the world'. In 1984 it was completely refurbished as a shopping centre with more than 200 shops. This picture was taken on 5 December 2011, Sig...

Big contrast between the old and new. Would love to have seen this place 110 years ago. Thanks for taking us along with you Sig. Well done.

I like the solid, substantial look of the older buildings against the misty, glassy, almost etherial towers. Excellent image!

Thanks for the memories, I used to work in York street for a Finance Company - I also agree with Pierre Cardin - it's absolutely beautiful, out of this world and a total experience, BB
