Description


Phacelia distans. Also called Wild Heliotrope or Blue Phacelia. The older flowerhead is curled like the tail of a scorpion. Found in the Tucson Mountains, Arizona.

I had to wonder why the name - a quick internet search said "The name scorpionweed comes from the curling habit of the blossoming flower heads which somewhat resemble the flexed tail of a scorpion in striking position." It looks like a rocky area where lots of scorpions could be hiding..
