Sad to see but some people do choose to live like this. Why I don't know and yes I do know hardship does play a part in a lot of cases.. Nice capture and yes they would tidy this before any dignitaries get there to open the bridge I mean heaven forbid if they see that there are down and outers in their society, the would hate to be reminded that their not all "rich and famous" Like them.

Sad and real!!!

Such can even be seen in Sweden today. Despite social services. Many are homeless due to drugs, alcohol, criminal activity, which have resulted in being evicted. With a lack of housing it's a landlord's market. So sad to see people begging in the streets, too. I wonder where all the tax money goes to? Keep up the good work! :-)

Thought provoking capture~ and the kitty looks way too thin, also living in hard times... From 2000-2006 I managed a business in Nashville on a main Blvd, 10 blocks from the state capital building, 5 blocks from world famous "Music Row" and smack dab in the border of the worst Nashville "Hood", North Nashville. Many many homeless people in the area caused me to learn they are all kinds of people. All that time only one was homeless due to monetary circumstances and with some help she was able to get a job, an apartment and a car... The rest, bless their hearts, for whatever reason could not handle normal living. I think societies have always had fringe-people who need daily help to survive. It does give us all a chance to be blessed with giving, perhaps that is their purpose... idk

ONE CAN ALSO SEE THESE THINGS HERE

Come close on a couple occasions throughout my life but have managed to hold on each time...This is going on far more that a lot of folks realize...You see it in places you normally would not. These are tough times for a whole lot of people and not just here in the US of A...It could happen to anyone at any time...this is a reminder that life is not always what we all once thought... Powerful capture here Richard...stunning reminder of what's going on around all of us at any given place or time.

Richard, I can't say, for obvious reasons, excellent capture. However, I will say you managed to record ,in superb photo journalistic style, the new icon for our once great Nation. A very good friend of mine, whom I have known for some 60+ years, has written about this tragedy while with the AP in Europe. We are entering something that is the stuff of a Phil K Dick sci-phi novel. In my own part of the country I see images that are straight out of the movie, Blade Runner. It's as if I went to sleep one night and woke up in an alternate universe. You did a good job recording this image!!!!!

Well I hope these people who are living here aren't worried, after all, Mitt Romeny said: “I’m in this race because I care about Americans. I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there We will hear from the Democrat party [about] the plight of the poor … And there’s no question it’s not good being poor, and we have a safety net to help those that are very poor" I'm sure the very poor are taking great comfort in Romney's words and will rush right out and vote for him. I bet that's where these folks are, registering to vote! Oh. Wait. You have to have an actual address to register ... A terrific social commentary ..
