Description

Imagine a low flying helicopter over your home early in the mornings or late at nights to view the lava that’s threatening your area. Eventually, the FAA had implemented a no-fly-zone in the Kalapana area to protect the residents. There were 3 or 4 helicopters flying over me during this shooting. This particular Helicopter might have been from the "USGS" crew as their picture posted was taken on the same day as mines.... Please Zoom in or see my slide video of "Pulama Pali" . Aloha and thank you for viewing "Pulama Pali"

A long time ago, I had been in a helicopter that flew over an eruption. Great way to see it. But, this does take away from the awesome sight. No obstructions is the best. Nice shot. Aloha

Apocalypse now! Great clarity and contrast in this overhead shot of the whirlybird bisecting the lava flow, Errol! But, how did you get above the copter for this one? Were you on top of a mountain?

Great shot Errol. I looked up this helicopter (tail# N311VT). It is registered to Volcano Helicopters at the airport in Hilo. Think this is a tourist flight.

Awe inspiring Errol but I know what you mean about helicopter noise. I live on a flight testing path for the helicopters built for the military in Yeovil,UK.

You have an excellent series of shots in the slide video. And this particular shot, with the helicopter in it, is a jewel.

@bmac62...Bill, the USGS and scientist will rent/use that Helicopter. I have some pictures from before with the whole crew outside taking pictures.....same helicopter and number. @Richardphotos....its a different story between tour helicopters and ambulance service in helicopters. I wouldn't complain about emergency helicopter too... Aloha
