Description

The Spanish Sparrow or Willow Sparrow (Passer hispaniolensis) is a passerine bird of the sparrow family Passeridae. It is found in the Mediterranean region and southwest and central Asia. It is very similar to the closely related House Sparrow, and the two species show their close relation in a "biological mix-up" of hybridisation in the Mediterranean region, which complicates the taxonomy of this species. Le Moineau espagnol (Passer hispaniolensis) est une espèce d'oiseau appartenant à la famille des Passeridae. Il ressemble généralement beaucoup au Moineau domestique mais le mâle en plumage nuptial est cependant bien différent. Sa bavette noire s'étend sur la poitrine, des stries de même couleur longues et épaisses marquent les flancs. Les côtés de la tête sont plus blancs et la calotte marron vif est bordée d'étroits sourcils blancs. Son bec est aussi plus massif et plus long. Sa voix est plus grave et plus sonore avec certains cris plus longs comportant un trille. Thank you for your comments on my previous upload :

This is truly a beautiful bird. I see the differences between that and House Sparrow readily; we have House Sparrows here. They were imported from Europe. I would hold that the two are, in fact, one species, just different varieties. Too bad we don't have THIS variety here. Thank you for sharing this excellent photo!
