Description

Jobin hated witches. He became a witch-hunter because of that hatred, which was fueled by a horrible spell put on his parents when he was a young child. He had not been in Brickton two days and he knew a witch was living there. He'd heard a number of the townspeople complaining about her. They said she was young but did powerful magick. All manner of illnesses and calamities were being blamed upon her. What they said didn't matter, really. Jobin could feel her presence. It was one of his talents. He knew a witch when he saw her. Jobin's assessment was always correct. On day three of his visit, Jobin toured the town with Lady Glennea of Bricktonshire, the richest and most senior of the local gentry. Dacora didn't see them coming toward her. Her familiar did and discreetly slunk away leaving his mistress to her fate. "I see you!" shouted Jobin. "I name you Witch!" Hearing his words behind her, Dacora glasped her hand against her chest. She wasn't surprised; the way the town folk were slandering her of late, Decora already feared it would come to this. Jobin roughly grabbed Dacora's right forearm. "Come with me, Witch! It's jail for you--" He shot her a look of bitter saftisfaction. "--And after your trial tomorrow, it's the fire for you!" It was clear to Dacora that the man would have preferred fire now without a trial. Fortunately, Lady Glennea remained in charge and, although the pair argued quietly over that possibility, the nobleborn insisted on the law being followed. Town guardsmen were summoned to escort Dacora to jail. Lady Glennea, however, did not want a trial or a burned witch in her town. Once the girl was safely in her cell, the noblewoman went straight home. A courier was immediately sent by horse to her leige. Better such matters lie on Ivor's head than hers. The message apprised her Lord of Decora's arrest along with a request to send a knight to come and bring the witch to his Court for judgement. ____________________________________ NOTE: I have sat on this for a very long time.
