Kailash, the moon of SOLARIS
Episode 2: The Crystal contemplating
The explorer had landed gently on the floor of Kailash.
Of what the crew could guess the nature of the soil beneath the pads of the module, in the light of a setting sun, the ground resembled both a thin layer of water ice as a ground, more compact and hard.

Kailash, la lune de SOLARIS Episode 2 : le Cristal qui songe L’explorateur venait de se poser doucement sur le sol de Kailash. De ce que l’équipage pouvait deviner, de la nature du sol sous les patins du module, à la lumière d’un soleil couchant, le sol ressemblait aussi bien à une mince couche d’eau qu’à un sol de glace, plus compact et plus dur. Capricia, à peine les propulseurs arrêtés, enclencha aussitôt la sonde qui, telle une vrille sortant du ventre de la nef, attaqua le sol pour y prélever une carotte, en vue d’analyse. Une fois récupéré l’échantillon, dans un vase sous vide, la minéralogiste explora l’analyse spectrographique du cylindre . Chacun entendit dans son casque, très rapidement, les résultats de cet examen. Le terrain sur lequel repose notre navire, est une espèce de minéral composé de dioxyde de silicium ou silice, avec des traces d'aluminium, de lithium, de fer, de traces de sodium, et de radical OH. C’est donc indiscutablement une couche extérieure de quartz. D’où cette luminosité sous le soleil couchant. Nous reposons donc sur un sol très stable, et il ne serait pas étonnant que les collines entre lesquelles nous somme placés, soient de pur granit malgré l’abondante couche de sablequi semble les recouvrir. - Maintenant ajouta-t-elle, il me faut impérativement savoir, à quelle atmosphère nous allons être confrontés en sortant du vaisseau. Ce fut au tour alors de Jovien Mercator, de s’occuper de manipuler la télécommande d’une sonde pour analyse gazeuse par chromo photographie. Après quelques minutes de bourdonnement intense dans les écouteurs des casques, le verdict de Jovien fût entendu avec soulagement : 79 % d’azote (c’est lui qui donnera une couleur bleue au ciel) 20 % d’oxygène (c’est lui qui nous permettra de survivre) des traces de gaz carbonique quelques traces de gaz rares, du genre argon, néon, et ajouta-t-il, tout en ôtant son casque, compte tenu de ce que nous rejetterons, l’équilibre écologique de cette lune, ne sera pas compromis ! C’est alors que Martial Bielarus pût voir quatre paires de bras se lever pour dévisser les casques de leurs fermetures auparavant étanches. La joie se lisait sur l’ensemble des visages...cette lune aurait pu être une lointaine cousine de la Terre. - attendez, attendez, avant de sortir, déclara brusquement la jeune Aurélie...il y a quelque chose de bizarre dehors, sur le côté gauche de la navette, plus exactement sur le talus sablonneux. Le commandant Martial fit alors pivoter la caméra d’exploration externe, dans la direction indiquée par la jeune télépathe, et suggéra à chaque membre de l’équipage d’allumer son propre écran de réception. C’est alors que chacun put découvrir l’image d’une chose étrange que les scanners analysaient méthodiquement pendant la découverte visuelle d’une forme très bizarre, semblant désolidarisée du sol de la colline et avec des dimensions imposantes ! Hauteur 3 mètres cinquante, et dans la largeur maximale, 1 mètre 20 furent les paroles qu’ ils entendirent énoncées simultanément par Jovien et Juliette...quand Aurélie prit aussitôt la parole : - on dirait un gros cristal qui aurait une structure identique à celle des roses des sables, mais ici j’ai l’impression de recevoir des messages par télépathie, dont je ne comprends pas un traître mot, ajouta-t-elle, d’une voix calme. - sa structure est effectivement cristalline, reprit Juliette, avec des éléments internes qui s’inscrivent tous dans des proportions conformes au classicisme très ancien du Nombre d’Or. Tous les éléments de la structure, tels que je les analyse actuellement aux ultra sons, se juxtaposent dans des harmonies impressionnantes... - maintenant cette espèce de statue bouge, tourne sur elle-même, elle m’apparaît comme vivante, les signaux sont plus forts mais toujours incompréhensibles, malgré les différents choix de mon traducteur, la coupa Aurélie...cette forme pourrait-elle être vivante, Juliette ? J’ai l’impression qu’elle se gonfle quand j’expire et qu’elle se rétracte quand je respire...et pourtant nous ne sommes pas encore dehors ! - soyons prudents, ordonna alors le commandant martial ! une roche qui semble respirer, avoir un cycle de respiration inverse de celui de l’être humain, et de telles facilités d’évolution de son enveloppe, doit nécessairement être abordée avec circonspection. - Commandant, regardez là cette chose, sa luminosité est en train de s’accroître, tandis que le soleil visible s’enfonce sous l’horizon, ajouta Robert. - Regardez tous, ce que je vous envoie sur écran, comparez ces deux clichés mémorisés à 2 minutes d'intervalle...vous ne remarquez pas une différence ? -Si si, s'exclama Aurélie, cette...chose a bougé de quelques mètres apparemment, sans laisser aucune trace de son déplacement ! Elle flotte réellement dans l'air, comme en apesanteur ! - elle s'est encore déplacée, confirma Vénéra en examinant les différences entre la première et la troisième photo... - Bon, si j’ai bien compris, cette énigme près de notre vaisseau doit être examinée dès notre première prise de contact avec Kailash ! Nous allons donc y aller prudemment : Juliette, Robert et Aurélie, sortez par l’arrière du module et dirigez vous lentement vers cette forme qui pour l’instant ne nous manifeste aucune hostilité. A la moindre alerte, vous vous arrêtez, et nous établirons un champ de forces autour de vous ! Ainsi s’annonçait le début d’un programme prioritaire, de la bouche même du commandant Martial !
