Description
Once in a while a picture can't tell the story without words.
This is dedicated to my dad who died years ago. I'm not looking for sympathy here, just getting some things off my chest in the only way available to me, by creating images that reflect my feelings...
There are prisons, those places where unresolved issues are placed to keep us safe. But, they are not always places we can see with our eyes...
Here's to you dad... friend without equal to your buddies, but demonic beast to your wife and kids.
If only you had been able to see how much you missed, and how very much you destroyed when you were worshiping that brown-bottled God of yours.
Your prison was of your own making, never considering the cost, not to you or those of us who cared about you... You devalued everything in life for us and left us with lingering feelings of hate and mistrust... left us alone and broken, you tainted every bit of the lives of 8 children, never once saying "I love you"... at least not that this one can recall.
I don't hate you old man, how can you hate that which will be forever unknown?
DAD 1921-1991 (war hero and one hellofa truck driver). RIP

A superb image telling a vary sad story ... Sometimes, art helps us to express feelings that live far inside or hearts. Must have been a hard work to fight with such memories.

The picture is superbly done, Seth! Your lightning is excellent. This is a very strong composition. And to say the words you said surely will do you good. Cheers! O.

Faemike's description was the first thing that came to my mind, powerful. Painful as well. But I know one thing. It's all our life experiences that make us who we are now in spite of it all. And that's one hell of a damn good thing from where I'm sitting, my friend.

Coole scene and atmosphere!!!

Excellent image! And the story is all to familiar & personal to me. You could be describing my father as well, right down to the truck driver and veteran. It does help to vent sometimes, be it words or art, the bile that was created has to be let loose.

A tale all too familiar with many, Seth, myself included. Thankfully my Dad got out from under it's thumb later in life and attempted to make up for the destruction his chosen outlet let loose on his family. For the most part that worked but there's always the wondering as to "what could've been". Things like this need to be discussed at times, painful though it may be. Thanks for reminding us that not everything is a bed of roses and the prisons we make for ourselves usually have the strongest walls.

A poignant reminder of so many childhoods lost...from drink to drugs to mental illness and beyond. So many share these emotions..it's important to know you aren't alone. A grim portrait--but through art we can find some healing and I love your fearlessness, in sharing such stark memories. OXOXOXOX Jane

wow seth a pallet of feelings in this one. i am trying to work of some chapters of my childhood in my images as well. its a terrific media to put your feelings in. i am trying when thinking of my father on 2 levels so to speak. on one hand a bastard with the white bottled stuff (50% apple brandy usually a liter per day it ate him up in the end and he died not so nicely) now on the other hand he was a hard working man never missed work we had no debts so to speak -a mortgage on the house wich has been paid every month is not a debt right. he fed and clothed us - lots of kids nowadays come home from school no food mother drunk in the kitchen. or someones wanker up her ...you know. this did not happened in our house but still lots of violence. its always an adventure when i go in virtual down into that pit to work up some more. so far i have good contact with my sister and we both share information and feelings. this is to me en epic work considering whats in there and whats involved.!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for sharing Seth. A painful, familiar and sad subject. Your art work expresses so much and is very powerful. Your Father must have been suffering at some deep level, where he had to drown his sorrows and could not appreciate all the good things that life still had to offer. That is so sad. Real strength is what you have, forgiveness, expression and living a life that will always be difficult and painful at times, but appreciating all the good things and not letting what can corrupt us, eat away at you. You have my admiration for sharing such a difficult time of your life.

We never choose our family and start in lfe but parents living in their own personal prisons are hard to contact. Some grew up without having parents other than an image how they look but never able to reach the person inside. Sad, but not uncommen...
