Het-hor may be better known to you as Hathor, the Egyptian cow-goddess. A couple of friends and I were discussing ancient Egyptian civilization earlier today and I just had to take a break from working on Evie. This is Evie, btw...believe it or not. One of my friends is particularly keen on Hathor and cows in general. Lol. Hathor probably originally represented the Milky Way as the 'Heavenly Cow'. She eventually became subsumed in both Isis and Sekhmet, who was a fierce lion-headed goddess. You didn't make Sekhmet mad, because you wouldn't like her. There are interesting parallels with the myths of Sekhmet, the Ugaritic (Semetic/Canaanite) goddess Anat, and the East Indian goddess Kali-Ma. They all sort of went berserk in battle and slew everything and everyone in sight. Most likely, they are all a representation of the same thing, possibly a celestial phenomenon that made life down here a bit hellish for a time. Isis of course was the sister-wife of Osiris and the mother of Horus or Hoor-par-khered, aka Heru-ra-ha. Isis is associated with the star Sirius in Canis Major, the brightest actual star in the sky (besides the Sun). The rising of Sirius marked the beginning of the Sothic year and the beginning of harvest season, before the coming of the Nile floods. This happened around the autumnal equinox in late August. So, there you have some interesting but basically useless knowledge for the day :) ***** Thanks for your comments on my last couple of images. I think Beren looks better now than ever, but I really have to do something about his skin. I 'bleached' Evie tonight...so now I have to do all her thumbnails over again. Again. But at least she's presentably pale now and no longer has a nice healthy skin-tone. But if that is what they want, that is what they shall have. Well, I guess she is half-vampire, afterall.
