Description
In best James Earl Ray[Jones]-esque voice: "An unseasonably warm, dry spring; followed by unseasonably dry summer weather triggers the molting of the rare and magical "fire"fly. Proceeding to swarm and mate amidst tinderbox condition, the insects spark a growing conflagration, only hightening thier mating fury.
"Over the next several days, the insects' numbers have grown beyond any ability to limit thier spread and overpopulation begins to take its toll... but not before the flames approach the territory of the Xiticix hive and threaten to overwhelm its members.
"The hive uproots and searches for new and safer territory, sparking the first of many confrontations between the citizens of the Barony of Markeen and the insectoid aliens in the Xiticix Wars."
Lightwave and Photoshop, my first Lightwave creation I have seen out to it's "final" completion. Creating the base mesh and textures of the creature took the longest of all the various parts of the image, followed by boning, posing, and then the twenty odd hours spent waiting for the largest figure to render at a decent size on my slow computer. Fire, Trees, Sky, Etc. completed in Photoshop in a few hours of painting.
Needless to say, the original image is several times larger and more impressive than this puny web-safe version.

I really enjoy the composition, and the textures and shade make for a very "natural-medium" look.
