I did not realize they have barbs on their bills until I done a close shot like this.certainly could cause some damage from a bite outstanding capture

If you have ever tangled with a goose, you know how true this is. A "guard goose" is more effective than a dog. As for how they bite, they grab and twist. It leaves a bruise about the size of a baseball. The barbs are really like a collender. They let the water drain out when the goose is eating plants from the bottom of ponds. I do think that they help the goose hang on when they do the grab and twist! As a rehaber I have had to learn not to get grabbed.
