Description

We have lots of beautiful manzanita on our property & the surrounding hills. Quite a few of the manzanita trees have fascinating patterns of striping where the bark has been worn away, as well as patches of different shapes. I'm sure someone can explain these scientifically (disease? insects? natural shedding of some kind?), but I find them mysterious, like some kind of strange hieroglyphic or code. If I ever decipher the code, I will write a best-selling book about an intrepid arborist who follows a trail of clues from one tree to another, from one forest to another, around the world until he uncovers the secret behind this vast tree conspiracy. It will then be made into a blockbuster movie starring Tom Hanks, titled, of course, "The Manzanita Code"... Please zoom

these trees are totally new to me what beautiful detail on those trunks. If, as would seem likely, you have an interest in trees, i think you would find, Wildwood, A Journey Through Trees, extremely interesting Its by the late Roger Deakin a brilliant English naturalist and writer, well worth a look.

Indeed, a strange and mysterious growth. Are the threads of the leaves of the tree? It seems to me as if the tree sick. The longer I look at the picture, the more he looks at me ....extraterrestrial LOL

I'm choosing at random since there's so much to look at here. But I couldn't help but notice how many shots have this intense clarity, along with great complexity. The clarity of the moss---or whatever is 'tufting' out of the bark---makes it seem as if the bark were growing on top of a fabric 'backing', like the backing of a carpet. And I like how the back branches keep winding their way into the background, while the foreground-trunks hit us squarely in the face. A bold, utterly fascinating and beautiful shot.
