Description

Experimenting with reflective sand granules. Although the size looked OK in the preview window while creating, the final render yielded something larger than I was looking for. This is after I had tried three progressively smaller sizes of fake stones. This same set up would look good for snow as well. Models included are Walli's dry shrubs (2 pops; each color adjusted) and his Mouse Ear chickweed. Ade's Dead tree treated with an image map making it look like one struck with lightning and burned. And, the Screech Owl ...thanks Mark. Enjoy.

I like how the sand looks wet on the right, because of reflectivity! The ligting in this place is enormously real, making everything in the scene very realistic!! Super Job creating this one, Bob!!!

Wonderful! Love the composition, and it looks really natural. I should be so lucky as to find an owl out in the open like that. I like to do bird photography, and finding an owl is difficult to impossible. In two and a half years, I have found exactly TWO owls in the wild, and both were pointed out to me!

One can see that this would be a cool snow texture as well..Though it stands great on it's own as a sand texture too!... One wonderful look'n landscape here!

Very nicely put together, Bob and agree with Thelby. Though it begs for maybe a smaller "Y" displacement on the sand and stretched either in the "X" or "Z" direction. I never had any success with the reflective shader, unless I was trying for the Guiness Book World Record for longest render time. Seems like there's little or no user control over it. Same goes for the "luminous" function.

Bob, the depth you've achieved here is remarkable. The close, smaller ridge and the larger one beyond give a palpable sense of reality that is amazing- I feel I could reach out and touch it. The vegetation certainly brings it home even more.
