Description

Eucalyptus deglupta is a tall tree, commonly known as the Rainbow Eucalyptus, the Mindanao Gum, or the Rainbow Gum. It is the only Eucalyptus species found naturally in the Northern Hemisphere. The unique multi-hued bark is the most distinctive feature of the tree. Patches of outer bark are shed annually at different times, showing a bright green inner bark. This then darkens and matures to give blue, purple, orange and then maroon tones. Straight out of the camera except for cropping. Zoom helps a little. Photo taken with my old Minolta. I've been around eucalyptus trees for many decades, but have never seen one like this, Dana. It is really fabulous, with all those multicolored bands running vertically up the trunk. Stellar capture.

I first saw a picture of one of these trees a couple of years ago and made me want it myself. It needs a frost and freeze free environment, so not for me....but this is certainly an amazing tree.

Great shot Dana we only seem to have the gray type over in the UK and they aren't native,this ones a beauty and I can see a few more photo's in that tree.
