Description

These lovely felines are Buddy and Tammy Faye Bakker. Anyone who is aware of Tammy Faye Bakker, evangelist, will know immediately why the feline on the right got her name. In the New York Times Obit for TFB was the following: "She was openly emotional, whether praying for the health of an ailing viewer or for generous financial contributions. When she broke down on camera - and she did so often - her tears and mascara both ran copiously, leaving long black streaks on her face." Buddy and Tammy (brother and sister) reside with John and Gil at Marigny Manor House. This is the bed and breakfast where Leslie and I stayed during our visit to New Orleans. (See their site here) We both highly recommend it to anyone visiting New Orleans. John and Gil are wonderful hosts, the breakfasts are delicious, the home and rooms beautiful, and the French Quarter within easy walking distance. We heard great stories around the breakfast table, including ones about Buddy and Tammy. (Well, mostly about Tammy. Buddy spends a lot of time conserving energy.) When I thought about what to post for Barbara's birthday, I remembered Tammy and a story that John told about her. Those who have been to Barbara's gallery know how much she loves animals and of the wonderful stories she weaves around her animals and their friends Zlata and Zwoggle. Barbara's gallery is here Marigny Manor House is on a narrow, unevenly surfaced road where traffic is sparse, and by necessity, slow. While Buddy stays mostly in the private areas of the home, Tammy likes to explore and to stroll out and survey the guests from time to time. Leslie and I kept our eyes peeled in anticipation, for the grace of her company, but one of the former guests had reacted in a totally different manner. He was a tall man, about 6'5", from Texas. John and Gil were surprised one morning when he complained that their cat was terrorizing him. How? She stared at him. Repeatedly. John and Gil promised to try to keep her and her eyes, out of his vicinity, but that night when the tall Texan came back from imbibing the joys of New Orleans, Tammy sat on the porch, waiting to be let in. With trembling fingers he managed get his key in the lock and walked quickly indoors, with Tammy right behind him. He hurried to his room and closed himself in with great relief. Tammy found the tall creature, who jumped whenever she entered the room, fumbled with his keys, and cast haunted glances in her direction, fascinating. At this moment however, she was more interested in finding her brother. She loves her brother and knows where he can usually be found. She headed straight for the kitchen. Alas, the kitchen door was firmly closed and her brother on the other side. This did not deter one of Tammy's resourceful nature, for she knew someone who was awake. Moments later the Texan was surprised to hear knocking at his door. He opened it and saw no one . . . until he looked down. Happy birthday, Barbara! I hope your day was filled with joy and laughter. Thank you for sharing your girls and Buck with us, and thank you for your marvelous stories and images. (My presence on renderosity will be a bit sporadic for a while, so I am keeping the comments off for now. I hope everyone is having a wonderful spring, or autumn. Thank you for keeping my family and me in your thoughts.)
