Description
Lake Jackson Indian Mounds State Park
This is the larger of the two Indian burial mounds here. All the plant growth you see crossing the field in front of it is growing up from a creek that passes through the picnic and recreational area of the park.
Hope you all enjoy and please zoom.
Thanks for the comments.

Awe inspiring Kim. Do they tie bits of cloth on the branches of the trees, as offerings to their dead, as they do at Devils Tower?

Great photo of this piece of North American history. Here in Middle Tennessee the mound builders left their mark also, most notably in a preserved area on the Harpeth River named Mound Bottom. These were constructed by the "Woodland Indians" and they are always near water but not always burial mounds. Sometimes they are mounds of discarded mussel shells (as on the banks of the Tennessee River) and some, like the ones here, were as protection from the floods - basically a raised village. Neat stuff~ =)
