Description
Captured this morning, and hot off the memory card, 4/5/12, at the semi beautiful El Dorado Nature Center in beautiful Long Beach, California.
A ZOOM is highly recommended.
Yes, captured on a return trip to the Nature Center, but this time armed with my Canon point-and-shoot camera, rather than my hefty Pentax SLR. Even though the Pentax takes sharper fotos, I just wasn't satisfied with many of the results, so, to avoid high light and shadow contrasts, off I went very early on a cool, overcast morning to see what I could come up with. I really took my time looking for stuff to shoot, at least before the school bus loads of barely disciplined screeching urchins invaded the area. They were at my heels most of the time, but then I finally decided to let them, and their teachers, pass before taking any more shots, which worked out pretty well. I was then able to relax and concentrate after that. The little scholars are inevitable and omnipresent every day at every aquarium and nature center in Southern California.
But I digress. I came home with 698 fotos on this trip, after snapping everything in sight, from all angles, whether it be living or dead. Although I'll be up into the wee hours for days postworking them all, the return visit was the charm.
And the small section of green grass shown in the foto was just about it for the whole Nature Center. It was no where else to be seen.
Sayonara, thankx for clicking on, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

Seems like a beautiful place...and I like the simplicity of these benches. I would not mind spending some time there looking out at the water. Nice shot.

I like the simplicity of the bench design, really basic stuff. And when you get tired of the benches you've got firewood! Excellent capture, Harry, and I really love that smooth reflection on the lake. Very well done!

Great shot Harry and those benches are about as basic a design as you can get. With my tricky back, I still need something to lean back on!

I know one thing I notice benches way more than I use to thanks to you, you have a great eye for seeing things many would miss.

well, you managed to get a good deal of music in this Druid-like lineup of benches. (Really, it reminded me of the Druids, when I first saw it. Very primal structures!) The curve of the shot is perfect. And a swath of beautiful reflection-work in the background, with sky to open up the shot to the universe. A simple and beautiful capture. And I love the story of the invasion of students and teachers. Sometimes in Chicago I want to scream at people for having the nerve to walk or drive a car where I'm shooting: Imagine me in a Nature Center filled with schoolkids. I can see why you waited. Serene nature and lots of squealing kids are a heavy contrast...It's a fine capture with a primal feeling, and your composition is spot on.
