IL terremoto dell'Aquila del 2009 consta di una serie di eventi sismici, iniziati nel dicembre 2008[4] e non ancora terminati, con epicentri nell'intera area della città, della conca aquilana e di parte della provincia dell'Aquila. La scossa principale, verificatasi il 6 aprile 2009 alle ore 3:32, ha avuto una magnitudo pari a 5,9 della scala Richter e 6,3 magnitudo momento (Mw)[5], con epicentro alle coordinate geografiche 42°20′51.36″N 13°22′48.4″E42.3476°N 13.380111°E ovvero nella zona compresa tra le località di Roio Colle, Genzano e Collefracido[6], interessando in misura variabile buona parte dell'Italia Centrale. Ad evento concluso il bilancio definitivo è di 308 vittime, oltre 1600 feriti e oltre 10 miliardi di euro di danni stimati
