Description

Just out of Shade and with its texture map still "wet" so to say. This Royal Netherlands East Indies Army Air Force transport plane now joins the Virtual Broome Air Raid Commemorative Flight... The Lockheed Model 18 Lodestar (Length 15.19 m, Wingspan 19.96 m) appeared in 1940. It was a stretched variant of the Model 14 Super Electra airliner, making it a cousin to the Hudson bomber and the later PV1 & 2 Ventura/Harpoon. Overshadowed in civil aviation by the Douglas DC3, The USA's entry into the Second World War saw many civilian Lodestars pressed into Allied service as military transports under the designations C-56, C-57, C-59 and C-60, depending on how they were kitted out. It had been done before. Before the outbreak of hostilities in the Pacific, the armed forces of the Netherlands East Indies (NEI, where Indonesia is today) were sort of an unorthodox "launch customer" snapping 29 up and immediately splashing camo all over them. Apparently, no one was recruiting stewardesses in 1940's Java... Any of these Model 18-40/18-50's that survived the subsequent loss of the NEI and the air raids in Australia during the evacuation in 1942 were soon swallowed up by the punishing routine of the Allied air logistics pool- "Working for Victory" as people used to say... Modelled in Shade 10.5. Rendered in Vue 8 Esprit Thanks for viewing and comments
