Description
Yup, he's wearing a set of my brown eyes :) And yes, I'm going to sell them. Thank you all for your encouragement!
Now to the challenge:
My friends...I'm issuing you a challenge. Let's call it the "Expression Challenge".
The human face is a wonderfully plastic canvas that can say so much without ever saying a word. The tilt of an eyebrow, the hint of a smile, a bit of a sneer, a wrinkled nose or narrowed eyes can say a lot. We can wink, we can pout, we can do all sorts of things with our faces to show our feelings. And trust me, you can make your Poser characters do all those things. I realize it's a little harder in DAZ, but one of you does it quite often and very well so I know it's possible.
Now, don't automatically count yourself out from this as 'too hard'. Just save a copy of your basic set up and figure after you've got it just like you want it. In the copy then be bold, be brave and experiment with those 70 dials under Head > Morphs|Expressions > Base in Poser. It's down towards the bottom there. Don't be intimidated by the number of dials. You don't need but maybe 10 or 12 of them to create an expression. The smile/frown, mouth, brow and eye morphs will do most of your work. Just play and have fun with them and see how rewarding it can be to put a smile, a frown or whatever on your character's face instead of deadpan.
THE 'RULES'
An expression can be very subtle or very extreme. The subtle ones often work best, but not so subtle you can't tell it's there.
I'm going to give you a list of five different expressions that you can try to do for this challenge. No fair using the Morphs++ expressions alone - unless you combine them with the ones in the Base section...or with each other. If you feel like passing the challenge on to your friends, please do! Use a character you feel comfortable with - don't care if it's male or female.
Challenge Expressions:
Ooooo, Baby! (An appreciative look at the camera or another character.)
What Happened Here? (Concern, a touch of sadness, horror or fear.)
Awestruck (Your figure is looking at something wonderful, strange or amazing.)
Determination (Your figure is a warrior determined to defeat the enemy or some such.)
So Happy You Could Cry (The name kinda says it all.)
I'll give you a hint if you're new to this: get a mirror and pretend you feel one of these things. Look what happens to every part of your face when you have that expression. Put your fingers on your face and feel the muscles move. You are your own best model for this. Body language is important too. What are your hands doing - besides groping at your face to see what's happening? How is your neck/head turned, bent or cocked when you are looking like this?
I'll give you another hint about the Morphs++ expressions - less is more. Go easy on the dials. Start at 0.100 and work your way up or down. The higher the setting, the more chance of getting something funky looking that you don't want. Come on :) Try it. Pretty please?
Post your image(s) with the title 'Expression Challenge' and most of all have fun!

What better way to test out those baby browns in detail? I rarely do portraits so this will be an additional challenge. A fine start you have here.

A very interesting challenge as this is something I would like to improve in my renders. I am not very good at doing portraits, but I think I will give it a try. Your portrait looks great, the eyes are awesome!

A great learning and teaching challenge. People need to use those expression dials more, and you've started off the challenge beautifully. Excellent portrait. Great details in the render and vibrant eyes. Awesome work.
