On Aviation and Photography:
"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Looks like a great tree fell, and I do believe it made a horrific crashing sound, whether or not anyone was there to witness it. ;c)

The point of view retains something of the moment of the falling of the tree, although it seems to have happened some time ago. I agree, this image has power.

What grabs me most about this are the fabulous colours in the broken trunk. They are so many and so rich.

You have me stumped Bill, I don't know but does anything make a sound, or is sound just waves which are picked up by the air and turned into sound. Its like where does space end!!! Getting deep now! Lovely shot btw.

Amazing colors and textures in this awesome capture Bill!

It sure makes a sound, creating vibrations in the air, regardless whether some person is there to hear it or not. That whole arguement is silly philosophy (I remember it from 1970, when I was in college. It's absurdly human-centered). Interesting photo. I assume you are standing and the diameter is greater than your stature. The light and color here is again beautiful and fantastic to behold. I'd love to walk among such trees again! Like being in a great natural cathedral. Love to see more, as you promised. Keep up the good work! :-)

When one of these falls, I'll bet it registers on seismographs miles away! A beautiful shot, Bill!

thats one thing i suppose we shall never know, what is a comforting thought is no matter how long a tree stands when at long last it falls it ploughs all its goodness back into the ground to lay the foundation for others to thrive, such is life. Now where were we, oh yes, a great picture.

SUPERLATIVE IMAGE!

I've pondered that question for years, and have come to the conclusion that it does. It's just that we're not around to hear it. Anyway, clear and crisp, plus rich colors, detal and contrast in this stellar shot, Bill. Much moister environment there then in our El Dorado Nature Center down here.

ok, more of this series...one of the gifts of this series is that each shot gives us a different view of the same general environment, and one of the things I noticed with this, as soon as it went up, was that the trees here are brighter, more lit-up with light. They almost seem like 'rays' in the background, in contrast to the big fanned-out mass of that trunk. And fanned-out is the right word. It's almost like an installation, like nature carved it to be a work of art. You've caught it beautifully, and the bottom portion slopes down with all that soil & furrows, etc. A very green bright shot, with a very dark imposing mass in front. Terrific contrast, Bill, and you obviously have an eye for all the variations that a single place can offer. I know that a redwood forest is more than just "a single place," but still; you've captured quite a few variations beyond the massive trunks and dappled shadows. Beautiful powerful piece. (As I might have said, my fav's aren't working, so forgive that I'm not faving Just know your work is a fav with me all the time.)
