For nearly a century, mankind had the capability of travelling faster than light. But exploring deep space was hampered by rebuilding of the 2005 invasion from outer space and fears from Starfleet that if humanity travelled to the stars, they would lead another hostile alien life back to Earth. And this time, there may be no stopping them. It took Commodore Jonathan Archer several years to convince Starfleet and the World Council that the 2005 invaders that decimated Earth’s human population came to Earth without humans venturing out into the stars. And a vehicle of exploration can also be the first line of defence or provide early warning of any hostiles from outer space. This then convinced Starfleet the possible hostile forces can be dealt with in outer space instead of on Earth. In 2161, the first of the battleships was retrofitted with a new warp nacelle that contained the tachyon capture coils, matter/antimatter fuel and reactor, and a fuel replenishment system while traveling through space. The refit only took 14 months as the nacelle was constructed at another location and was used to replace the detachable engineering section that only contained the original matter/antimatter fuel and power systems. ************************************************ 2005 because that was when War of the Worlds starring Tom Cruise was released.
