Description

1941 Waco biplane Going through my old files, I realized I'd shot this three times, at different settings. I blended them in CS5 and did a bit of touchup postwork. The richness of the color and the light was better than any of the three individual shots. A fun exercise!

If somebody's gonna have a taildragger, it should be one that looks like this. I love that nice shade of green and the red and other colors are fantastic compliments and accents. The fun bits in this shot are so nice and shiny. I like the shape of those landing gear cover things. Nice! I want a tail dragger now.

Just this afternoon, I was reading a book that used the term "taildragger". If I hadn't read that, I never would have known what this foto would be. But no matter what it's called, the color, light and details in this shot are just GREAT!!

These are wonderful little planes, the kind I dreamed of flying through the house like a cartoon plane when I was little, and I still remember that! Your work stands out again!

Oops and wow! You must have a very stable tripod! Beautiful color rendition - very rich! Interesting reflections in the paint work. I see why the nick-name tail dragger. And all the little strings are visible, too. Nice job! Keep up the good work! :-)

Well, as much as I've been dragging MY tail around lately, I wish it looked this good! Hmmmmm..... Maybe if I get CS6 when it's released.. :-D This is a real purdy biplane, and you did a super job on making it look fantastic, Tara!

Great shot, great postwork and 'taildragger'? You are getting to be a professional general aviation pilot Tara. Next thing you will fly them lol!

Nicely done. The light seems to eminate from within as much as reflecting off... I'll have to pull out my camera's operating manual and reread about how to use what Olympus calls bracketing...you got a wonderful result here. I am jealous:)

it's hard, tara, because when I do these compact sessions, I can't get everything in one sitting or not even in many, so I have to pick & choose, and that's almost impossible. Your architecture shots are calling me, and I may have to make them a separate day, as they speak to each other & will make a great single session. But, for now I want to get at least a 'representative' sample of your other work....I read Bill & don't understand bracketing enough to know what he's referring to (I know it as something to do with White Balance, and don't understand that too well.) But if it relates to your light here, then you've created real beauty with it. Whatever you did, you've made a whole shot with the feel of a collection of shapes & contours, much as you do in your closeups. Ie, it's clearly a "whole plane," yet you've allowed so much to 'break into' it: !) you've allowed part of it to be obscured by that red wing in the lower right corner; 2) you've allowed the plane in back to move right through it's shape as if it were put there for that purpose; 3) you've allowed the light & reflections to spill across the plane enough that it seems to be nothing but at times; and 4) you've allowed a big dark section---front, top-right---to dominate one of the corners of the shot, so the plane's "field," again, is broken-into, interrupted, etc. (Am I being clear here?) You got a whole plane which is still an ocean of shapes & swoops, etc. Your overall is like a menagerie of sheen, shape, light & shadow, a big jewel surrounded by other jewels. And as for Junge's comment, well I don't know anything about the 'title' or why that makes you a pilot, lol; but I imagine if you flew one of these things, you'd have to shut your inner eye off because you'd be so enveloped with the poetry of the thing you might forget where you were going...Beautiful piece & jazzy & intimate, and a plane-painting if ever there was one.
