Description

You think this boy could sell green eyes? Hahaha. I think he could probably sell ice-cubes to Eskimos. Don Altayr makes a good gypsy. Maybe I'll change his name to Django - just kidding. Maybe. I've always liked gypsies as there were several in my neighborhood where I grew up. I had some friends that were gypsies. There were two old gypsy men who would drive a horse-drawn cart through the neighborhood in the summer and sell fresh fruits and vegetables. The horse was white and wore a straw hat and horse brasses. Then there was another who sold the best watermelons ever. Don't see them around much here any more :( Made my third (green) set of eyes today. Not entirely happy with the blue ones, so have to revisit them, but I do like the green ones that I've tried. Spent most of the evening mucking with his skin. I still can't get it as dark as I want it but I have some ideas about that. Must get the eyes done first though. Still waiting to hear on the brown set but they got further than my first submission. There's a step in the right direction! Thank you for all your thoughtful comments on the previous images. I see several of you are touched by it too. And yes, it still goes on sadly. The years of the inquisitions have always been of great interest to me. I came upon some pretty crazy stuff while researching my family tree - like one male ancestor who had to wait outside the church while he was getting married because he wasn't Catholic. The more I learned about my ancestors the more I learned about these times and continue to do so, and I sometimes wonder if my interest in it isn't somehow something I've picked up on because of my 'genes'. I've 'known' things about my ancestors before I 'knew' them and it's a little weird sometimes. I've come to believe in 'genetic memory' very much in light of all this. And really it's something that is entirely possible. Anyway, thanks for looking, your comments and your own wonderful art and stories dear friends! Cheers! Rayvn

Ha, Rayvn, you sound like Gaston Bachelard, a philosopher, when he used to write about " la mémoire immémoriale de l'espèce" = The immemorial memory of the species. Beautiful seductive character. The eyes are superb. Cheers O.

gorgeous eyes Rayvn... and yeah, I rather believe in "genetic memory". I think it would be impossible to not pass along those memories during procreation, just as we pass on instinctive urges such as flight or fight. And if we can inherit traits like eye or hair color or the shape of our bodies or structure of a face, why couldn't we pass along memories? We have just been trained over the ages to not recognize that there is more to life than what science alone can unravel.

Speaking as a professional biologist I have to tell you that there has been some amazing research done lately on genetic transfer of knowledge and other attributes. It was poopooed since Darwin as being too Lamarkian. We didn't have a understanding of how complex gene transfer is until just a few years ago - and we still have a long way to go, believe me. But your idea is not without scientific merit. The mind/body has a way bigger influence on gene structure than what we thought - what we inherit as genes is not what we pass on, genes are far more maluable. And of course if you believe in reincarnation of the soul then past lives memories are just standard operating protocol. I think Seth gave a pretty darn good synopsis here. This is a great character... he has character. A rougue, a charmer, a gentleman when need be, but really probably not :-) Something about eye shadow and long dark hair on chisel featured guys makes my heart flutter. I would love to see other variants of your green eyes, some darker ones with mahogany flecks perhaps. I confess I rarely use blue being a lover of browns... so I was blessed by your first set.

Wow - this just knocked me out of my chair! A super portrait, Rayven, and those eyes.... If I saw those eyes on a woman, I think I'd pass out.... Beautiful work, here! I think it's very possible that some memories are passed along from generation to generation... We just haven't developed the ability to access them... I read some time ago (can't remember now where it was....speaking of memory..) that we only use around 10% of our total brain mass in a lifetime. What potential remains in that 'unused' 90%?

Here here on the genetic transfer. It does explain the 'past life' memory scenario. It would seem many are enlightened and in agreement here. Very handsome character and his eyes are very deep and a nice shade of emerald. Great looking character and excellent render.
