On Aviation and Photography:
"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Such a tree is called a nurse log - how appropriate is it not, and how wonderfully you have captured it.

The ultimate in recycling. Again, the light and the colors are so fantastic and beautiful. It's almost like being in heaven. Majestic and awe-inspiring even in the smallest details. And the silence of these woods. Sound is muffled, yet clear. I wish I could visit this type of forest again. Keep up the good work! :-)

What a wonderful capture of how our gorgeous forests work. Although, I know from experience (having sprained an ankle in just that kind of ground) you have to be really careful when hiking in deep forest like this. Lots of not-as-solid-and-level-as-you-might-think places! Beautiful work, Bill!

Wow, Bill, you're taking me on a walk thru my own backyard. These fotos make me feel as though I'm walking thru the redwoods.

in a series of some very complex shots, you have, here, a closeup of a whole colony to itself, with the forest in the background---but in the background. A big carpeted hunk, beautifully lush, and you captured the roots and other stringy vines beneath it, showing the 'jaws' and under-workings right beneath the exquisite "results" (ie, the leaves). And the straight wood beneath that, all moss-covered. (Or leaf-covered, as I don't know exactly what specie of plant that is.) A whole colony, a whole 'city'. It's really lush & varied, with a few flowers in view; and you included the top of the trunk, which acts like a beautiful 'frame' to hold it all in. Beautifully seen, and though it's an "excerpt" (I assume MOST of what you photograph in a redwood forest will be an excerpt), it feels huge and quite unending. Beautiful capture of your title too.
