Description

...another view inside one of the groves of Redwood National Park. ...this photo illustrates a typical old growth Redwood forest. ...taking and uploading these pictures has spun me off on a little research project. If you are interested, see the two links below. .................................................. ...these are the characteristics of the now very rare old growth forests worldwide: 1. Large trees over 200 years old 2. Multiple-layer canopy 3. Trees of all ages 4. Large downed trees 5. Downed trees in stream courses 6. Snags Bill P.S. Do you have any old growth forests in your country or state? Click Here. P.S.S. Old Growth wiki that illustrates the six characteristics listed above. "Tricky" thumb_2321685.jpg

Oh, for a nice walk in this forest! And feel a slight cool breeze. I checked the links you provided. Very interesting. Nice to see that there are a LOT of reserves in the US, more than I thought! However, I suspect the world lists on the second site are not comprehensive. Looking for Sweden, I found nothing, yet I know there are some areas preserved. However, the question is also if these live up to the definition for an old growth forest. Considering how populated Europe is, and for so long, I'm surprised there would be any old growth forest left there. A LOT of forest was cut down during the cold period 1400 - 1700 for fuel (heating homes, primarily). Keep up the good work! :-)

I like this shot, it relaxes me just looking at the trees and green on the ground.

Just beautiful! It looks like a place that would nice to explore, but then again you wouldn't want to disturbe anything! This really looks like a place that you would find some elves or fairies!! I will have to see if New Hampshire has any old growth forests. I know that back in history all of the large trees were designated as property of the king for the masts of the English ships, so a lot of beautiful trees that were around ended up as ship masts....

Oh, to spend some time here... This is just so gorgeous, Bill! I'll have to take a look at that link and see what's 'old growth' in Missouri. Probably the Ozarks - although that region is so overdeveloped any more...

Oh, I love an old growth forest. There aren't as many as you'd think there are...and even the Black Forest is sorta gray now...not very black...it's a lot of newer growth: upstart, snitty trees that think they're "real" trees. But anyway, enough of that! This is such a calm and restful shot. I love the green carpet. I can just imagine the wealth of insect thingies that live there and well...THAT intrigues and tickles me to no end. This is stunning!

A beautiful capture of this old forest. Yes we do have some still down here but it gets less and less worse luck.
