Description
Captured 4/16/12, early morning, in and around the general neighborhood.
Outstandingly ZOOM worthy.
Just four of over 130 pictures of manhole covers I have languishing in my files.
Top two photos are of the same cover; couldn't decide which was the better POV, so I included both.
I chose these particular beauties to post partly because of the deteriorating condition of the surface surrounding them.
Arrivederci, thankx for stopping by, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

Who else but Harry would have a file of manhole covers? You are so adept at finding objects to photograph. You are right about the condition of the street. The covers are in good shape, but the street around them is not.

Hmm, the top one says "Made in India"??? who'd a thunk it? Don't we have enough steel mills here to make our own manhole covers? Still, excellent shots, Harry, full of details galore!

I see that #3 is bolted down and thus the white line on the manhole cover, lines up with the white line on the street. That never happens here!

Ditto to all comments, especially morningglory's comment . I also cant imagine India underbidding the cost plus shipping of these 100lb man hole covers, really ?

They all remind me of the many great shows in which the star of the show pops out (or dives into) the manhole - w/o the cover, of course. The most recent film in my memory is Enchanted. :-)

So how many have you found of these?

Love the decay, and more of that early morning light. It's mysterious, revealing & concealing, (It's yours, you know: I really mean it when I say that those who tackle that time of day over & over 'earn' that time of day. You earned its confidences wholly.) Just great decay, and great textures, almost abstracts, in fact. Love the mix of cracked and flat concrete in the first two, and I love the one with the line painted over it (Andrea had one like it too), with all the cracked textures across it. Love the patterns. And the final one is so intense, more red than bluish-gray, and those little leaves in it; and the cracks much smaller & hugging to the cover. You may not be an 'abstract artist', but you capture pure form & texture & light so often, you qualify as one. These are clearly manhole covers, but they're also studies of form, light & texture; and that means you're looking at the molecular nature of things. Terrific collection, and I see Andrea approves as well. Love them! Oh---and India? I'm surprised too! All the way from India??? Amazing...(Harry, I have to stop now, but will be back in a few hours. I have to get some sleep. But I already saw the next installment in your interior angles series, and I'll get to it when I awake. See? I"m actually doing current photos this morning! I'm not in the archives with the climate control and archivists looking through manuscripts. Terrific bunch this late night, I'll return later...)
