Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

This is the quintessential coffeehouse view. I love the fact that it hasn't really chanced since the early 1990s...okay, hairstyles have changed a bit, but the overall vibe is the same. That's a good thing. I love the light in this and the way it plays on the texture of the book cover, the table, and shines in an almost otherworldly way through the main window. Great sense of color. Upping contrast usually adds an extra pop to photos, which is what I like...realism is good, but sometimes a bit of exaggeration captures the essence of something more than realism ever could. This rocks.

God Corey now I feel like a coffee! What catches my eye is the guy sitting with the pretty girl............giving the 'long goodbye' on the phone to someone ELSE! The plague of our times!

You're not stuck in the seventies, you just enjoy visiting there from time to time. (More than most people?) :) Anyone with a cell phone in a coffee shop isn't any sort of throwback at all. We're just old, my dear! :P I find it to be quite relaxing. The contrast looks great! It takes the scene and makes it extra-ordinary. Highlighting the ordinary-ness of the place, of the people, of what's going on there, and in places just like it, everywhere across the country. It makes the image sort of archtypal, if you know what I mean. Nicely done! (That's too many commas, but it's just a comment and I can't be bothered to clean up my syntax when I know you know what I mean anyway.) If you're feeling crazy, go with the onions instead of crossing the street in the middle of the block. There might be some spaced-out driver coming just then who has no respect for crippled jaywalkers. :P
