Description
Those massive steel and concrete Kriegsmarine sub pens are pretty fascinating...that they were the "land-bound lairs" of the stealthy Kreigsmarine U-boats makes them all the more fascinating. Like airplanes, these craft have afforded us the freedom to explore a realm otherwise inaccessible to us...and to do things that we would normally not be able to do. (enough said about that!)
This render has a bit more photoshop than usual. The flag was "assembled" and painted with PS as was the rain enhancements.I usually avoid more than a touch of photoshop, but I liked the idea of the Kriegsmarine flag, and it had to be draped and blowing in the wind, and WET! While I was at it, I also enhanced the rain that was already in the render.

Wow Weelie, very nice work.

Great scene. Its not all torchlight parades and speeches. Must be hard to feel like The Master Race when you are absolutely soaked through. Still it could get worse... it could stop raining and the RAF could arrive.... What as that about clouds and silver linings? The flag was worth the effort too.

outstanding, bubba! time to watch Das Boot again....

Beautiful job! The flag is a bright piece of color in the gray - sticks out well. The next thing I noticed was the great job on the rain. Here, there are drops so large they look like wet snow flakes, making the departure even colder and more miserable. And, they know they may never come home (3/4 of all German sub crews never returned - more losses than in any other service!). Keep up the good work! :-) Thanks for the comments on my posts! :)

Excellent postwork on this scene Bill and the fluttering wet flag and rain adds that extra touch of realism. There's nothing wrong with postwork, it takes skill to make things look good :)

Awesome work of the dark side. This sailors were young and they had no time to live. A very sad time.

Great work and well done. The red from the flag is so strong as the only color in the scene.

Great picture! Love the color contrasts of red and grey and the overall mood even it causes a fascination with the horrors of war. I think it's good to use photoshop, if it helps to express an imagination and you are a wizard in using all of these tools. By the way: if you are interested in U-boats, I recommend the site http://uboat.net/ to you. It's worth a look to find out more about this wolves of oceans.
