Description

“Rock Zot has been undergoing a strange and complicated crisis—an identity issue and a crisis of confidence. Many—critics and music aficionados—have complained that Rock Zot is too-often pitched at a specific audience, and that Rock Zot performers peddle affectation over substance. And yet, however, there are those who have spent their entire lives listening to this stuff. There are arguments that the controlled synaesthesia that comprises most of the genre has grown so complex that listeners who are new to the genre grow confused and profoundly uncomfortable and, unanimously, give up on the genre itself. I’ve heard many calls for a more accessible form of the art, but I’ve made the choice to ignore such calls. “Rock Zot, like science fiction—especially the classic stuff from two and three centuries ago—is an expression of the positive side of ghettoization. Rock Zot, like science fiction, like Jazz, like Rap, was not invented by the high culture. It is a popular form of low art. The difference, I suppose, is that science fiction as a literary and cinematic genre, or Jazz or Rap as musical genres were and are almost exclusively human. Rock Zot was born within an inhuman ghetto. I am an android construct, the fellow members of my group are non-human extraterrestrials. Our experiences, within a human context, have no other means of expression. Our experiences, within a human context, have no relevance. We’re not anti-human in our sentiments. We’re not elitist in any way. We’re simply making music, making art for those like ourselves. Our neurological systems aren’t human and—therefore—our senses aren’t human. We perceive things differently, and our music grows from that. “I’m flattered by the idea that humans have developed an interest in Rock Zot, but I question the logic of that, and ultimately, the sanity. Terra-born humans have no need for what Rock Zot presents. Human culture is dominant here and there are hundreds, if not thousands of musical genres available to the human listener. Zot, on the other hand, is all that androids and aliens have, and Rock Zot is just a variation of that. Zot is our common experience, distilled into art, and this—more than any contrived reason—is why Zot is so inaccessible to natural-born humans. Our exclusion from the human artistic paradigm is what led directly to the pursuit of so obscure and inhuman an art form. Humans are welcome to enjoy Zot if they can, and no one will say that humans cannot understand it. But one does have to question such an experience and the reasons behind it.” —Alex 248: lead drüd player and backing olfactory architect for Duplex 8. (Excerpts from The Glass House Interviews PBVR * Well, it looks like Alex 248 is starting to come forward with all sorts of things to say about whatever it is he's talking about. That's not a bad thing, especially since Duplex 8 seems to have spawned its own pocket universe, and who better to describe it than...well...Alex 248? I'm sure there will be more. As always, thank you for viewing, reading and commenting, and I hope you're all having a great week.

I love the whole Duplex 8 thing. There's so much to explore, culturally and philosophically speaking, in the idea of music we can't naturally appreciate. I don't think I even want to imagine their groupies. LOL! As for this piece ... it's fabulous! Your elements all come together perfectly. Outstanding stuff!

I shake my head in sheer amazement at your fertile imagination, Chip. Wonderful stuff! Reminds me in some obscure way of "Magister Ludi" by Hermann Hesse...

An interesting display of Alex 248 and his three friends with their insect like faces. I also like the electronic noise in the background!
