Hi there. I'm not sure about the species but I think it must be a sawfly and not a kind of butterfly or moth. I found them on willowherb and like their design - just like little snakes I thought on the first time I saw them.

Markus, I think this is much more likely to be a moth larva, maybe of the Noctuidae family. It is very similar to the delightfully named "The Uncertain" which feeds on things like dock, dandelion plantain and chickweed. There is a pic of an Iris sawfly larva Here and rosesawfly larvae Here However, as you know, I could well be completly wrong!!
