Description

The Engine Room of the Queen Mary was my favorite place, not just because of the ghostly stories associated with this part of the ship, but also because of the challenges in photographing and capturing its essence. It's dark, cramp, and while cool now, it's easy to imagine the place sweltering in the steam drenched steel corridors. The amount of pipes, valves, and other things just boggles the mind. Men worked down here for days on end, some barely ever seeing the light of day. I tried to capture that dark claustrophobia. It wasn't easy. There's very little light and barely enough room for a tripod, so I used a monopod and boosted my ISO to numbers I would have never been able to do on film. Enjoy

yeah that sounds like the engine room for you: hot, noisy, artificial light. sleep, eat, work is the routine of the ship's engineers. You've done an excellent job capturing that atmosphere.
