These poor souls couldn't win. They'd tie them up and throw them in a pond. If they drowned it was proof they were witches. If they didn't that was proof they were witches and got burned at the stake. When I see an image like this I can't help but think about the confused villagers in Monty Python's "The Holy Grail" when they were trying to figure out what to do with the witch "discovered" living amongst them...lol. Like your shadowplay here.

Wow, this one is powerful! The figures are so dramatic, as if a clip from a movie or a scene in a book. I love how the shadows really intensify the moment, and they speak volumes about the shadowy, dark role Christianity played in the murders of thousands of people, based on lies, paranoia, and folk tales/myths. A truly dark time in humanity's past and one we cannot forget. Your picture speaks volumes! OXOOXOXO Jane
