Description

Quite the handsome chap, isn't he? I picked this little guy up off of the interstate on the way to work this morning. He has fledged so he must have just gone too far from the woods next to the road. He was being blown around quite badly by the large trucks as they passed by. My boss and co-workers had been quite relieved when I told them I was done cliff climbing for the year. My boss informed my that walking around on the interstate in rush hour traffic was NOT what she had in mind when she said to do something safer! My problem is that I can't stand seeing an animal in danger and not do anything to help. The only people that really understand are the other rehabers here. Of course, we are all crazy. Any way, no harm done, and he is a doll! The red color around the eyes is the color he will be. They are called Chestnut. The last baby owl pic was a gray, and about 2 weeks younger.

What an amazing story he could tell, and what a relief it must have been to him to see you coming to his rescue. It is a superb shot of him and I hope that his future is a bright one. hugs Jane xx

When I was a child, I'd decided (as children do) that owls were the cats of the bird world. I still find myself thinking that from time to time. I thought that as I saw this image, though I have to admit when I read the title, I wondered if Lovey was also photographed somewhere nearby! This is a superb and dignified image, with quite a story surrounding it. Brilliant work on all levels!

Glad you were able to pick him up with no harm done to either of you! Love the name. I thought the same as Chip ... I could hear that character saying "Lovey," in that way he had. :)

So glad you spotted him. Lovely pic. I hate all the road kill on the roads. We stopped to give the girls a walk & there was a dead partridge on the road but as the cars went by I noticed it was still alive. What must this poor bird have been going through. We went & picked her up & took her to the grass to see how she was but unfortunately she died. I was so glad I moved her though.

Aw, how cute! And he seems to appreciate being saved from the interstate. He must be quite psychologically traumatized. I would otherwise expect him to peck at you. But, the look in those eyes says he understands who helped him. And, this may be his first positive(!) interaction with humans. So, he spent the day at your work! How did he react to that? And your colleagues reaction to him? You rehab folks aren't crazy - it's the others who don't care who are crazy. What if it had been a human child? Everything would come to a screeching stop. Keep up the good work! God will bless you for caring for His creatures. :-) Please keep us posted on the progress with the little racoon baby girl you posted a few days ago. Her eyes are SO sad, and she's SO cute! :-)
