Description

Species Siphanta acuta - Torpedo Bug I remember seeing these things as a kid. But this is the first time I have seen one since my Macro-photog has started. Was pretty happy to find this little guy on the lemon tree and get some good shots of it. Info on the name: Latin acutus 'sharp' (probably refers to the sharply-pointed wingtips). The common name refers to the leaping ability of nymphs (mature nymphs can leap as far as 60 cm) -Bug Guide Thanks for looking and kind comments. -Bruce

Wow, Bruce, this image is awesome. I like the sharpness of the face. The eye is fantastic and the texture is so. You found a new way to play with these old friends.

What a cool shot. Great eye....both you and the bug. I think it's what we call a leaf-hopper....but maybe not....I certainly never got such a good look at one.

Really great shot. He looks like a grumpy leaf. I gotta say that the part about the nymphs jumping around gives me the creeps. I prefer my insects stationary.

Wonderful! I'm rather depressed by the fact that I don't see these gorgeous little people as much as I once did. Oh, but when I do, it's an experience to remember and I'm quite happy that this one cooperated enough for you to get so wonderful a photo. Don't they just have the cutest faces!? This is incredibly well done.
